Spring semester is in full swing with midterms just around the corner.
Speaking of things around the corner, our first spring concert is coming up very soon! Dragon Scales will be performing in the choir concert on March 6th at 7:30pm in Gaede Theater. You'll also get to enjoy the melodies by the MSUM University Choir, Concert Choir, and the acapella group Solfire.

Hi, I’m Keziah! I am currently a freshman at MSUM, going for music performance (with an emphasis on the piano). I’ve lived in Moorhead for 14 years now, and I have been a piano accompanist for choirs and ensembles since 7th grade. A fun fact about me is that I am one of seven kids in my family, and the rest are boys, defying all probabilities and odds. Music is what I love most, but other hobbies include cooking, baking, eating, and laughing with people. I also enjoy spending time outdoors and am looking forward to summertime in MN when I can once again attempt to build up a tan.
Dragon Scales Vocal Jazz is the creation of 2 first-year college students--Sylvia B. and John Lahlum--at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) in Moorhead, MN who had heard many peers discussing the need for a vocal jazz group on campus. In fact, there used to be an ensemble back in the 1980s called Snowfire (not to be confused with the current Solfire A Cappella that performs mainly contemporary and pop music) that served this exact purpose, but had since been retired.
Because of these factors and with the support of the current director of choral activities at MSUM, Dr. Michael Johnson, Dragon Scales Vocal Jazz was officially registered as a student organization in the spring of 2023 and later fully implemented in the fall.
Being a brand new ensemble on the campus has allowed the group to be creative, experimental, and adaptable. Typically a 16ish-person ensemble, the group performs vocal jazz styles both on and off campus either completely a cappella (meaning no accompaniment) or with instrumental accompaniment.
We thank everyone for their support and collaboration.
